Antonia Trower, Product Manager

Antonia completed her BSc in Cancer Biology and Immunology from The University of Bristol in 2010. Currently she is working with Loxbridge on novel therapeutic and diagnostic projects. Prior to working at Loxbridge, Antonia worked in the medical marketing department of a cancer charity The Haven and held a research role at the not-for-profit environmental company Greeenstar.org. Antonia works with Origin Sciences assisting in all aspects of technical, operational elements of R&D and clinical studies.

 

Dr Cheryl Collins, Senior Development Scientist

Cheryl is researching and developing various molecular tests at Origin Sciences that will help detect and diagnose gastrointestinal disease, principally utilising clinical samples collected using the OriCol™ sampling device.  Cheryl's previous roles before joining Origin include; working on medical research projects with Loxbridge Research including an aptamer diagnostics platform and an innovative anti-cancer technology. Prior to this Cheryl worked in a diagnostic pathology lab at Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust and was a Research Fellow at the School of Pharmacy, University of London. Cheryl holds a PhD in Neuropharmacology from De Montfort University, Leicester and a BSc in Human Physiology from Greenwich University, London.

 

Dr Cliff Murray, Scientific Advisor

Cliff has joined the Origin team with a breadth of scientific expertise across an expansive career in academic institutions and commercial organisations. Following his doctoral degree, Cliff spent three years as a Visiting Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, USA. On returning to the UK, and after a period of research in basic cellular biology at Strangeways Research Laboratory, Cambridge, Cliff joined the Cancer Research Campaign Gray Laboratory at Mount Vernon Hospital, Middlesex, where he worked for 10 years on tumour vasculature. In 1994 Cliff moved to the CRUK Department of Clinical Oncology at Nottingham City Hospital, where he headed up the CRUK Tumour Cytokine Group and also held the post of Reader in Oncology at Nottingham University. After ten years of teaching and research, resulting in over 100 peer-reviewed publications, Cliff left academia to join Source Biosciences plc (then Medical Solutions plc) as Head of Research and Development. In 2012, Cliff founded Murray Biosciences Ltd, a consulting service to the biotechnology sector.  Cliff has a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biochemistry from St Andrews and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Pathology from Cambridge University.

 

Jenny Searle, Office Manager / Administrator

Jenny supports the Origin team with a strong background in administration and excellent communication and organisation skills. Prior to joining Origin, Jenny was an Accounts Administrator with Vindis Sawston, a car dealership firm, where she worked for over ten years. During her time at Vindis Sawston, Jenny spent some time supporting a busy Sales team in an administrative capacity before moving to the Accounts role. Before this, Jenny worked for four years at AXA Insurance as a Team Administrator / Underwriter. Jenny is a qualified Nursery Nurse and spent two years at ABC Nursery before moving to a career in Administration and Office Management.

 

Martin Ellis, QARA Manager

Martin has joined the team with 26 years of an extensive multi-skilled career in Manufacture and Quality Management of analytical and medical instrumentation and an in-depth knowledge of supply chain management. Martin has used a high level of dedication focusing on delivering quality from outsourcing through to customer liaison. He is focused, goal orientated and brings many years of experience and knowledge to our company. Martin spent thirteen years at his previous company to which he achieved high standards in all areas of the business to which he was responsible. His previous roles have included Quality Manager, Quality Systems and Facilities Manager and Purchasing Manager.

 

 
Rachel Craven - R & D Manager

Rachel has over 20 years’ research experience in the life science sector, largely focussing on the discovery and validation of disease biomarkers. She joins Origin from Biosignatures Ltd where she set up a lab generating high quality gel-based proteomics data for the development of molecular diagnostic tests. Prior to that she worked in the academic sector, most recently as an Associate Scientist/ Technical Specialist at the University of Leeds. Rachel has BA in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford and a PhD from the University of Manchester.

 

 

Alison Hedley – Senior Development Scientist

Alison has a broad experience in the development, validation and application of biomarker assays.  In her previous research and development roles at Carclo Diagnostic Solutions and Genesis Diagnostics, Alison has worked with multiple assay formats including microfluidics and microarray, covering both point of care and diagnostic laboratory applications.  Alison also has experience in quality control and technical support for in vitro diagnostic assays and previously worked as a Biomedical Scientist in Immunology at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.  Alison has an MPhil in Molecular Physiology from the University of Sheffield and a BSc(Hons) in Pharmacology from the University of Leeds.
